FCLC Women’s book club
Saturday, December 20th 10 AM, Faith Community
We are reading James by Percival Everett:
The book is based on the view of the slave, James, in the Huckleberry Finn novel.
When Jim overhears that he is about to be sold to a man in New Orleans, separated from his wife and daughter forever, he runs away until he can formulate a plan. Meanwhile, Huck has faked his own death to escape his violent father. As all readers of American literature know, thus begins the dangerous and transcendent journey by raft down the Mississippi River toward the elusive and unreliable promise of the Free States and beyond.

The next gathering is at the home of Kory and Kim Cash. The food theme for the evening is “Red, Green, White, and Chocolate!” Guests are encouraged to come with a meaningful Christmas memory to share, and should wear a festive Christmas sweater.
